Learning to Be Meek and Quiet

Proverbs 29:11

11A fool uttereth all his mind: but a wise man keepeth it in till afterwards.

Proverbs 25:28

28He that hath no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down, and without walls.

Proverbs 9:13

13 A foolish woman is clamorous: she is simple, and knoweth nothing.

1 Peter 3:1-4

1 Likewise, ye wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; that, if any obey not the word, they also may without the word be won by the conversation of the wives;

2 While they behold your chaste conversation coupled with fear.

3 Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel;

4 But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price.

Learning to Be Quiet

In a world that often values loudness and assertiveness, the biblical call for Christian women to cultivate a meek, gentle, and quiet spirit can seem countercultural. However, these qualities are highly esteemed in God’s eyes and can lead to a more peaceful and fulfilling life. Here are some practical steps to help you embrace these virtues:

Seek God’s Guidance Through Prayer

Prayer is a powerful tool for transformation. Ask God to help you develop a meek and gentle spirit. Regular prayer will help you align your heart with His will.

Immerse Yourself in Scripture

The Bible is filled with wisdom on how to live a life that pleases God. Verses like 1 Peter 3:3-4 remind us that true beauty comes from within, characterized by a gentle and quiet spirit. Make it a habit to read and meditate on scriptures that encourage meekness and gentleness

Practice Patience and Self-Control

Meekness involves being patient and not easily provoked. When faced with challenging situations, take a moment to pause and reflect before responding. This practice helps in cultivating a calm and composed demeanor.

Surround Yourself with Positive Influences

Spend time with women who exemplify a gentle and quiet spirit. Learn from their example and seek their counsel. Being part of a supportive community of Godly Christian women can provide encouragement and accountability as you strive to grow in these areas.

Focus on Inner Beauty

In a society that often emphasizes outward appearance, it’s important to remember that God values the beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit. Focus on developing inner qualities such as kindness, humility, and compassion. These traits reflect the character of Christ and are of great worth in God’s sight.

Cultivate Gratitude and Contentment

A meek and gentle spirit is often rooted in a heart of gratitude and contentment. Practice thanking God for His blessings and trusting Him with your needs. Contentment helps you remain peaceful and gentle, even in difficult circumstances.

Engage in Acts of Service

Serving others is a practical way to develop meekness and gentleness. Take care of your family, submit to your husband, and keep your house neat, clean and organized. Acts of service shift the focus from yourself to others, fostering a humble and gentle spirit.

Reflect on Christ’s Example

The LORD Jesus Christ is the ultimate example of meekness and gentleness. He was humble, patient, and kind, even in the face of adversity. Reflect on His life and teachings, and strive to emulate His character in your own life.

By incorporating these practices into your daily routine, you can grow in meekness, gentleness, and quietness. Remember, these qualities are not about being weak or passive but about having strength under control and a heart aligned with God’s will. Embrace the journey of becoming more like Christ, and let His peace and grace transform your spirit.
