Devotional | Enjoying Peaceful Hymns
Christian Hymns have a unique way of bringing peace and joy to our hearts. As Christian women, we can find solace and strength in the beautiful melodies and profound lyrics of these timeless songs. Let’s explore the joy of enjoying peaceful hymns through the wisdom of Scripture.
“Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord;” (Ephesians 5:19, KJV)
The Bible encourages us to fill our hearts and homes with songs of praise. Hymns are a wonderful way to do this, as they remind us of God’s love, grace, and faithfulness. When we sing or listen to hymns, we are not only worshiping God but also allowing His peace to fill our hearts.
One of the joys of hymns is their ability to connect us with the rich heritage of our faith. Many hymns have been sung by generations of believers, providing a sense of continuity and community. They often contain deep theological truths that can strengthen our faith and encourage us in our daily walk with the Lord.
Consider the hymn “It Is Well with My Soul.” (One of my personal favorites). This hymn, written by Horatio Spafford, speaks of finding peace in God despite life’s trials. The lyrics remind us that, no matter what we face, we can trust in God’s sovereignty and goodness.

Take a moment to reflect on your favorite hymns. How have they brought peace and joy to your life? Consider setting aside time each day to listen to or sing hymns, allowing their soothing melodies and uplifting messages to draw you closer to God.
Here is a wonderful instrumental hymn album by Mary Beth Carlson as well that is peaceful to listen to:
Prayer:
Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for the gift of hymns. Help us to find joy and peace in their melodies and messages. May our hearts be filled with Your love as we sing praises to You. Let these hymns be a source of comfort and strength in our daily lives. In Christ's name we pray, Amen.
“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.” (Colossians 3:16, KJV)
